AI changes what leadership has to deliver. Managers are expected to set priorities, take responsibility for AI-assisted work and give employees direction, often without having sufficient AI know-how themselves. We advise and accompany leadership teams in actively shaping this task.

What you come away with

  • A clear understanding of leadership tasks in dealing with AI
  • Basic AI competence established in the leadership team
  • Agreed formats for direction and dialogue in the teams

Understanding AI as a leadership task

When AI is treated as a technology project, responsibility lies with IT while managers are too little involved. We work with leadership teams on what AI means for their area of responsibility. They clarify which goals and priorities apply and which decisions are theirs. This makes AI a matter for leadership, not just for technology.

Building personal AI competence

Managers do not need to master every tool. But they do need enough understanding to judge possibilities and limits and to assess proposals from their teams. To this end we combine fundamental knowledge with reflection on concrete questions from their own area. One topic is how AI results are checked and who is accountable for them.

AI becomes effective when leadership takes it on as its own task rather than delegating it to IT.

Giving direction and making uncertainty discussable

Employees waver between curiosity, scepticism and concern about their future tasks. Leadership needs to address these uncertainties rather than pass over them. With managers we develop formats in which experience with AI, conflicting expectations and concerns can be discussed openly. This allows trust in new ways of working to develop.

Tapping into system intelligence

A key leadership task is to draw on employees' experience of processes, workflows and potential improvements. Combined with the knowledge of internal and external AI experts, this produces ideas for applications. Managers create the space and routines for this.

Taking responsibility for the consequences for people

When AI supplements or takes over tasks, job profiles and capacity requirements change. Management has to decide how freed-up resources are used and what the future division of work looks like. These decisions require a clear stance and open communication.
