Understanding and developing corporate culture
What the rules people actually live by have to do with strategy, leadership and change.
Read moreThe rules people actually live by, culture development and the capacity for change.

Which unwritten rules support your future direction – and which stand in its way?
Which patterns of behaviour persist despite new goals?
What counts as accepted, risky or unspeakable in everyday work?
How do leadership, decisions and collaboration shape these patterns?
Culture shows in what is taken for granted every day. An analysis therefore starts with recurring experiences and decisions before describing a desired future.
Existing routines also provide reliability. Understanding what they do makes it easier to see which conditions need to change too and which uncertainties to address.
It helps to distinguish clearly: what has been decided, what is still open and where can people contribute? Communication creates opportunities to understand together what a change means.

Robert A. Sedlák, CEO of transformis, on DVVision as third-order change, what it takes to succeed, and the role played by joint consulting systems.
Read moreThe Systemic Culture Compass is one of our tools for analysing corporate culture. It starts from the question of which patterns are at work in the company.
Our services explicitly cover removing cultural obstacles, strengthening employer attractiveness and aligning strategy and culture. Performance culture and Smart Decision Culture are further areas of focus.
After the analysis, cultural strengths, tensions and the strategic need for change are assessed together. Starting points can include leadership and key roles, decision paths, communication and people development. Interventions are coordinated and reviewed against new experience in day-to-day work.
Culture shows, among other things, in how people deal with mistakes, uncertainty and dissenting views. A diagnosis combines interviews with other suitable surveys. The focus is on fit with the strategic task. Leadership, decision-making and day-to-day collaboration create the conditions for development; new value statements alone do not change these patterns.
Strategies that have been agreed fail in implementation because cultural patterns work against them. Culture change has no effect if it is launched in isolation from strategy. Leaders operate in the tension between formal requirements and informal rules. At the same time, culture change is seen as “soft” and is not managed on the basis of sound data. There is no shared language for discussing and working on culture in an objective, solution-focused way. Collaboration suffers from a lack of trust and little willingness to take responsibility. A lack of psychological safety in working relationships also creates significant barriers to speaking up, so the issues that matter to the business cannot be discussed. This is how taboos develop in organisations.
Was uns im Thema Kultur unterscheidet:
Strategisch eingebettet: Kulturentwicklung folgt klaren Zielen
