Strategy and organisation in a trading group
The trading group faced changing needs among its members, new market players and the growing importance of digital services. An international stakeholder analysis examined the expectations of members, contract suppliers and other partners; at the same time the company worked out its core competencies. Cross-functional teams developed business model options, and from these management formulated a vision of the future, which was presented in July 2017.
Requirements for the organisation were derived from the vision before any organisation charts were drawn. In the merchandise area, separate functions emerged for member management, purchasing management, and supplier and product group management.
Sustainability, logistics and leadership
In the same company we anchored sustainability as a permanent cross-functional task: with a core team of CEO, sustainability function and consultants, a cross-functional platform and focus projects defined each year.
In logistics, a multi-stage process led from an organisational diagnosis to a new leadership structure. During the rollout, twelve of 13 positions were filled internally; internal functions then continued the leadership workshops themselves.
